SOLICITATION
Posted on Dec 20th, 2016
Door-to-door solicitors require permits
Police are reminding residents that any company soliciting business in town by going door-to-door should have a permit issued by the Police Department’s Code Enforcement Unit
If a salesman comes to the door, a resident should ask to see his or her town-issued door-to-door solicitation ID card, bearing the photograph of the individual representative
If residents feel uncomfortable, they should immediately contact the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 561-688-3400 and an officer will respond. If there is an emergency, call 9-1-1
Anyone who wishes to avoid unwanted visits from salespersons may register for the town’s no-solicitation list by calling code enforcement at 561-233-5500.
Religious organizations are exempt from obtaining a permit because of federal laws providing a provision for them. Often, members from these organizations will relay a spiritual message and may ask for a donation. Residents are under no obligation to donate and should never feel pressured, harassed or intimidated
